The Piment d'espelette from the Basque region of southwest France is a pepper so prized it has an entire festival dedicated to it. At Blue Leg Farms, we grow our basque pepper from those same seeds, dry and grind them on the farm to make a powder truly worth celebrating. The Basque pepper brings a mild heat with smoky, sweet, and earthy notes. In the southwest of France, it is used liberally as a substitute for black pepper. We love the Basque powder to season soups and stews, or to give a burst of flavor and beautiful red color to stir-fries or as a final garnish on eggs, tacos, or avo toast.
